No Earthly Kingdom?
Some contend, on the basis of a few texts, that the New Testament expressly denies that the Kingdom of Christ is an earthly future Kingdom. However, in attempting to highlight these verses, some other monumental features of the New Testament which clearly teach that there will be a future earthly Kingdom are often rushed past. Let us observe four of these most obvious features that every reader of the New Testament should have noticed. After this we shall look at a few of the particular verses.

How can there be a God with so many terrible problems in our world? As the ancient poet Lucretius wrote:
Had God designed the world, it would not be
- A world so frail and faulty as we see

What does 1 Corinthians 15.29 mean by speaking of those ‘baptized for the dead'? Who were the ‘sons of God' in Genesis 6.2? What does it mean that Christ ‘went and preached to the spirits in prison' (1 Peter 3.19) or that it is impossible to renew some people to repentance (Hebrews 6.6)? There are many things in the Bible that we find hard to understand. It would, in fact, be a strange thing if we never struggled to understand the Scriptures, for being God's Word, they are not always easy reading.

What Denomination are You? |
|
Have you ever been asked what sort of Church you go to? I once answered that question by telling a bit of a lie: "I go to a Church without a name". "What do you mean?" my workmate asked. "Well", I replied, "names only divide Christians, and Christians should be united – not divided".

Is there a pattern for Church life in the NT? (Pt 1) |
Footwashing, Holy Kisses and How we run our Churches
Is there a Pattern for Church life in the New Testament?
In the Old Testament, Moses was told to see that he built the Tabernacle according to the pattern which God showed him (Exodus 25:9, Hebrews 8:5). David, too, was given detailed plans by God for the building of Solomon's Temple (1 Chronicles 28:11, 12, 19). Likewise, Ezekiel was told by God to show Israel the detailed pattern and precise measurements of the Temple God had shown him (Ezekiel 43:10).
Does the New Testament provide a similar pattern for church life? Does such a non-negotiable, exclusive and absolutist attitude apply to the Church in the New Testament? Is there only one way of ‘doing church' envisaged in the New Testament? Or is the New Testament approach to the worship of God in the Church fundamentally different to the worship of God by Israel in the Old Testament?

What is wrong with the Church in the Western world?
Why do we see so few people saved? Why is the Christian community such a tiny enclave in a vast, godless, unbelieving society? Why is it having so little effect upon the lives of millions of people? Why does the Church not catch the attention, inspire the admiration and provoke awe and fear amongst the millions of unbelieving people around us - like the NT Churches in the Book of Acts (Acts 2:47, 5:11 and 5:13)? Where are the people coming into our gatherings, falling down on their faces, worshipping and reporting that God is truly among us (1 Cor. 14:25)? Why do we see so few prayers answered? Why are there so many churches on their last legs, near to death, composed of a few, old folks? Why is the only growth in the church biological and transfer growth?
Why is the landscape of our cities spotted with converted Churches - Churches converted into furniture warehouses, schools, flats and cinemas - monuments to our lost power? (If you ever visit London, walk across Westminster Bridge from the Houses of Parliament to Lambeth Palace - the London residence of the Archbishop of Canterbury - and you will see the most unbelievable sight: The church INSIDE the very grounds of Lambeth Palace itself has been turned into a MUSEUM OF GARDENING HISTORY!). Why is there no power with God or with men (Gen. 32:28)? Why do our churches have a name that they live, but are DEAD (Rev. 3:1)?
